PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Mismatched desire is one of the most common sexual concerns partners face; despite this, very few clinicians feel comfortable talking about sexual health in the therapeutic space, let alone know the best ways to approach desire discrepancies between clients. This workshop is intended to both give clinicians an introduction to different approaches for addressing desire and open up the door for clinicians to start to address their own discomfort and bias around working with sexual health.

The majority of this workshop follows the framework of care established in Annon (1976)’s PLISSIT model, a common model of healthcare that can help clinicians new to working with intimacy discern what modalities to use and when to consider referrals. Through this model, we also discuss the therapeutic skills clinicians already use that can be applied to work around desire discrepancy.
