This program provides mental health clinicians with a comprehensive understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, from early signs and assessment to advanced stages of care. Participants will learn to recognize the differences between normal aging and cognitive decline, conduct gentle and effective assessments, and consider differential diagnoses. The training also explores the emotional impact of dementia on clients, evidence-based therapeutic interventions for each stage of the disease, and communication strategies that foster dignity, autonomy, and connection.
In addition to clinical skills, the program addresses the needs of caregivers, emphasizing strategies to prevent burnout and promote emotional well-being. Cultural competency, ethical considerations, and informed consent in dementia care are explored to ensure inclusive, respectful, and client-centered practice. Attendees will leave with practical tools, local resources, and a deeper ability to support both clients and caregivers through the progression of dementia.
